Brown-headed barbet, Avissawella, Sri Lanka.

I heard at a lecture by Felsinger in the 1970s, how difficult it was to isolate and record bird song in that era. They would set up microphones set in parabolic mirrors and wait. Any bird song was invarioably marred by the raucous song of the babbler. These birds are quite noisy.

A 'cadju-nut' after a parrot had got at its contents.

A cadju fruit has a very hard shell. It needs roasting in the fire before being smashed open. The parrots with their sharp teeth nibble their way and reach the fleshy kernel while the fruit is still green and hanging on the tree. The picture shows the result. I took this picture at Dehigahapitiya, Sri Lanka.

A pensive bride, Kosgama, Sri Lanka.

I managed to get this picture of a bride dressed in all the traditional finery at Kosgama, Sri Lanka.
