Bee-hive, home garden, Avissawella, Sri Lanka.

Newly formed comb in a frame.
The 'Queen bee' is near the tip of the finger and is larger.

Can you spot the Queen?

The whitish wax has been freshly built from the secretions of the workers. The yellow cells are filled with honey.
Bee-keeping is a wonderful hobby. We have been doing it for the last 25 years. The bees increase the yield in our coconut trees, they yield honey and they are a pleasure to watch working. They do not attack you unless they perceive a threat to the colony. Bee stings have therapeutic value in alleviating joint pains. Bees' honey is a medicine, preservative, wound dressing etc..

A black colored flower, Kosgama, Sri Lanka.

Called 'Sinha mukha' S (Lion's face) or 'Yaka mala' S (Devil flower) this flower because it is black in color is considered inauspicious. I have never seen it used in household decorations.
