Scenes from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, Sri Lanka.

Post-office building, Nuwara Eliya.

Statue of Lord Buddha carved on a rock, Dowa near Ella on the road to Badulla.

View from the Ella Rest House.

On the lawn of the Ella Rest House.
The drive from Nuwara Eliya to Ella is  downhill all the way. From the central highlands of Sri Lanka to the plains of Badulla is beautiful. The carpeted roadway leads between misty mountains past Hakgala and Welimada. The busy town of Bandarawala leads to Dowa where the roadside Buddhist temple boasts of a standing statue of Lord Buddha carved on a rock. This carving is claimed to have been done in one day by a sculptor a few centuries ago. Going past Demodara where the railway line from Colombo to Badulla makes a loop on itself one comes to the turnoff to Wellawaya. This road climbs the hill to traverse the 'Ella Gap' in the mountains. Coming down hill the Ella Rest House stands about 500 meters on the right hand side. The view from the Rest House is absolutely stunning..

A bright sunny day and the garden was gorgeous. I did not have time to sit and enjoy the sights as we were rushing through on our way to Ella.

Sights at the Victoria Gardens, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka.

Tourists joining a 'photo-session' of a wedding group in the gardens. These photos are used to make a 'story-book' albums to record wedding celebrations in present Sri Lanka.

Flowers and colours galore in the Gardens.

We waited about one hour in these gardens. I wish I had spent more time there. It was a sunny day and the colours were very bright.
