Scenes Wahakotte, Sri Lanka.




At the time of the Portuguese occupation of parts of Sri Lanka, a King of Kandy detected a rebellion organised by some European mercenaries, domiciled in the Capital, Kandy. He executed the culprits but exiled their wives, mistresses and children to Wahakotte. The legend says that this explains the high incidence of  reported blue-eyed people in Wahakotte.

'Apaaya', Kavatiyamuna temple, Sri Lanka




Figurines and drawings depicting the tortures of 'Apaaya' (Hell) to wrong-doers are sights for people doing the pilgrim path in Sri Lanka. These pictures were taken at Kavatiyamuna Temple off Aluvihare.
