Vijithapura, Sri Lanka.

A 'Mal aasana' - flower pedestral in the form of a lotus flower.

The early form of 'worship' in Buddhism, was to remember the Lord Buddha, viewing certain representations of Him. The 'Foot-print' was foremost among these. This was long before Lord Buddha's images were made. Images for worship of Lord Buddha were not used, in early Buddhist practices because it was claimed that Lord Buddha went into emptiness and there could be no representation of this state. Representative articles like a foot print, an empty throne, a Chamara etc were used instead.

One of the most beautiful spots in Sri Lanka. To take a bath in the reservoir, and partaking of a meal on the bund with the fresh breeze caressing one's body - this is paradise.
