The hillock named 'Vadahitikandha' in Sinhalese and 'Kathiramalai' in Tamil have a history going back more than 2000 years. It was dedicated to the God 'Skanda' - 'Murugan'. In the 1960s when I first climbed it it was a series of steep steps cut into the hill side. Now I hear that there is a Jeep track leading to the summit and Jeeps are available on hire at the base. I took these pictures on a morning from Katharagama.
