'Dambakola Patuna', Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

The place where the Ven. Theri Sangamiththa, the daughter of King Asoka landed in Northern Sri Lanka 2000 years ago is called 'Dambakola Patuna'. The Venerable Theri brought a branch of the Sacred Bo Tree from Buddha Gaya in what is present day Bihar in Eastern India. The sacred Bo tree was the tree under which The Lord Buddha got His Enlightenment  The Bo Sapling was planted in Anuradhapura the Island's capital at that time. It survived the damages of war and abandonment of the surrounding population over the millenia and is a site of pilgrimages at present.
