Rest House, Kithulgala, Sri Lanka, May 2014.

Scenes from 'The Bridge over the River Kwai' filmed at Kithulgala in the 1950s.

The well cared for lawn.
The Rest House at Kithulgala on the road to Nuwara Eliya has a long history. It had its days of glory when David Lean chose this as a base during the filming of the movie 'The Bridge over the River Kwai'. They built a bridge over the river close by and ran a steam locomotive with carriages, over the bridge. The train was blown up over the bridge using explosive charges. The whole scene was covered by more than six movie cameras. The production was a box office draw.

Rock and pool, past Kithulgala, Sri Lanka.

Among the many streams one passes on the road to Ginigathena, I came across this rock and pool. It is a favourite spot for the village youngsters who come to laze on the rock and dip in the pool at midday. It is a lazy life with no cares or worries.
