The town of Haldumulla was a ramshackle affair about 50 years ago. It is now a place full of shops and boutiques catering to the travelers on the road to Badulla.

Dowa is a few miles from Badulla, near Demmodara on the road to Bandarawela. This ancient rock temple is said to date from the time of King Valagambahu at the beginning of the Present Era. The figure sculpted on the rock is said to have been completed in a single day by a master craftsman.
