These advertisements show a way of life lived almost a century ago.

Toys of childhood - 1950s, Sri Lanka.

Toys turned out of wood.


An old bicycle rim was an excellent roll-along negotiating difficult train.

What a lovely childhood it was in the 1940s to 1960s. Plastic toys were unheard of. Tin, pewter and wood were used as raw materials for toys.

Trees more than 60 years old at Hartley.

The tree shown above stood close to the old library. You can see the old JSC class-room behind it.
I really could not place the site of this tree in the Hartley of 60 years ago, when I was a student there. Above photos taken on the 5th February, 2012.
