Mountain squirrell's nest, 'Whispering House', Tangalle, Sri Lanka.

We had a two day stay at the 'Whispering house' guest house in Tangalle, Sri Lanka. We saw a mountain squirrell's nest built out of leaves on a 'Margosa' - 'Neem' - tree. I spotted the couple who built the nest but they were too agile for me to get a photo. I managed to get them on video. Click on the link below to get a glimpse of them:-

A house in Puwakpitiya, Avissawella, Sri Lanka.

This house was built in the early part of the twentieth century for a 'Gammuladaeniya' - Village Head-man - Mr.Rupasinghe, during the British Colonial Period in Ceylon. I was informed that an engineer who took part in the construction of the 'Kelany Valley' narrow gauge railway designed this house for the Headman.

'A boat on the river', Meethirigala, Sri Lanka.

This boat on the river is 'not sailing away'. It has no sails and is tied up for the day. It is used daily for 'sand harvesting' from the river bed. The sand in the bottom of the river, is a result of soil erosion upstream. The harvested sand is used for building purposes.

Boat house, Kandy Lake, Sri Lanka.

The jetty on the Kandy lake is a very popular spot for people to hire a boat to boat on the Kandy Lake. I took this photo on 7/6/2009.
