Sunset on the bund of the Udawalawe Reservoir, Udawalawe, Sri Lanka.

The hills of Uva beckon us.

The fresh breeze fanning our bodies you get lost in the beauty of a sunset.

Feeding the orphan elephants at Udawalawe, Sri Lanka.

Elephants orphaned in the jungles of Sri Lanka are brought to this orphanage run by the Department of Wild Life. They are looked after and released into the Udawalawe wild life sanctuary bordering the orphanage. They come back from the jungle twice a day to get their quota of milk.

Click on each of the web-links below to watch video-clips of the feeding. Keep your loudspeakers on.

Minding the buffalos.

I saw this herd of domestic buffalos taking a bath in a stream at Udawalawe. There was only one man in charge of the herd. The second picture shows them being guided home.

Waiting for some fruits, Udawalawe.

An electrified fence seperating the wild elephant from the Udawalawe-Thanamalwila road, the elephant waits for fruits to be thrown across the fence by passers-by.

Wild buffalos at Uda-Walawe national park, Sri Lanka.

Water buffaloes are notorious for for their strength. They have been domesticated and used in South Asia for millenia. They are also very stubborn, very impulsive and stupid. They stick together as herds. They are dangerous animals to meet when they are together as a herd, in the jungles.
I took this picture at the Uda Walawe National park in Sri Lanka.
